The Killers played live in London on Wednesday night and their live set filled us with musical knowledge
There’s nothing like hearing The Killers pump out a few of their classics live at an intimate venue – here’s eight things we learned from their gig.
They love London
Lead singer Brandon Flowers was gushing with praise for London 10 years after they first played on our shores.
Stopping to thank the fans, he said “There’s something in the air tonight. We’ve been coming here for ten years, and you were the first ones to make us feel worth a damn – you gave us the confidence to go elsewhere.”
You can’t sit and watch them
Half of the crowd had seats. None of them were used once they stepped on stage.
You’ll know more Killers songs than you think
For a band who’ve never had a UK number one single and only ever had four singles make the top 10 (Mr.Brightside, Somebody Told Me, When You Were Young and Human) you’ll know a lot more of their songs than you think.
They’ll always play Mr. Brightside
And we are forever grateful for this. A decade on from it’s release in 2003 this feel good anthem is as good as it gets and it still makes for a perfect close to a gig.
The Hammersmith Apollo has a new name
We’re not entirely sure when it happened but don’t worry we managed to make it safely to the Eventim Apollo – as it’s now known. Rest assured it’s the same great venue but with newly upholstered seats.
Classic combinations always work
Small venue. Big songs. Perfect.
The last time The Killers played the UK in the summer they headlined at Wembley and before that played a headline slot at the Isle of Wight Festival but seeing them in a smaller more intimate venue was just as good if not better.
The new album has two new songs on it
Their new album ‘Direct Hits’ which is released on Monday is essentially a greatest hits album but does feature two new songs Just Another Girl and Shot At The Night which they opened the show with.
It took us ages to get a good picture
Ok, ok, we’ll be honest we struggled for an eight but it did take us an age to get a picture without the hands of the person a few rows in front in the frame.
