The Former Spice Girl has sold just 393 copies of her new single, Half Of Me
Poor Geri Halliwell. I like her, I really do. But the Australia’s Got Talent judge hasn’t got much… well, talent. And that’s according to the public Down Under.
Despite much hype and a new six-figure record deal with Sony Australia, the former Spice Girl’s single, Half Of Me, isn’t exactly flying off the shelves.
In fact it has sold just 393 copies. That’s nationwide. And Australia is a pretty large continent.
Just to rub salt into the wound, her talent show rival Dami Im – winner of Australia’s X Factor – has debuted at No1, selling 44,025 copies of her single Alive.
In contrast, poor Gezza , 41, scraped into the official Aussie ARIA charts at number 281.
But why such a poor showing?
How could she fail with lyrical beauties such as: “I gave you the finger, and you took me to dinner” and “I thought love was bulls***, only for the foolish”?
My particular highlight is the line: “I wanna have your babies, gotta have you like crazy” accompanied by scenes of mum-of-one Geri dry humping on the video.
And the video itself is also a big problem.
Produced on a budget (seemingly of about £18), it features Geri dancing and singing with a host of “colourful” characters – all of whom look like they were found on the streets of Sydney and then asked
to mime slightly out of time.
Poor Gez has been trying to revive her career off the back of her judging role on Channel 9 programme Australia’s Got Talent.
Half of Me was even written with producers DNA Songs, who have penned hits for big Aussie star Timomatic and, ironically, Dami Im’s chart-topper Alive.
In retrospect Gezza’s decision to sing live – and not rely on auto-tuning – on the NRL Footy Show last month, though bold, was perhaps not wise. The resulting footage went viral – and not in a good way. Poor, poor Geri…
