One hit wonder Lou Bega was forced to confirm he was still alive – after being mixed up with rock legend Lou Reed.

Bega, who had a UK number one single with Mambo No. 5 in 1999, revealed how he had been sent “tons” of condolences on Facebook after the death of Perfect Day singer Reed on Sunday.

The 38-year-old posted on the site: “R.I.P Lou Reed the genius who took Walks on the Wild side.”

The German pop star then added: “PS: I have been receiving tons of condolences because of a journalist confusing our identities.

“Lou Bega sends his condolences to Mr Reed’s Family.”

New York-born Reed died aged 71 from a liver-related condition.

He was best known for hits including Walk on the Wild Side and Perfect Day, as well as his work with The Velvet Underground.

As for Bega, he couldn’t replicate the success of his debut single.

His second offering, I Got A Girl, only made it to number 55 in the UK charts.
