STRICTLY COME DANCING: Natalie Gumede Misses Performance After Fainting, Gets Bye Into Next Week

‘Strictly Come Dancing’ fans gasped as it was announced at the opening of tonight’s show that favourite-to-win Natalie Gumede would not be performing.

The audience were told: “As you may have seen, we are missing a couple tonight. Sadly Natalie was taken ill during a dress rehearsal and won’t be taking part in tonight’s show.”

The former ‘Coronation Street’ actress had been due to perform a jive with professional partner Artem Chigvintsev to ‘Proud Mary’ by Tina Turner but was ruled out after fainting twice during rehearsals.

A spokesman for the BBC show said: “Natalie Gumede fainted during first band call, then again during dress run, both times at the end of her routine. She has been checked by the medical team on site, and will be going to A&E as a precaution.

“As per the rules of ‘Strictly’, she will have a bye through to next week and the show will continue tonight with a public vote. Someone will still exit the competition this weekend.”

Fans were later given more details about Gumede’s dramatic collapse.

A medic said: “I was radioed to come to the dancefloor where Natalie had collapsed. It became apparent that she had fainted.”

Chigvintsev said of his partner: “She was shaking a lot and crying. I am just gutted for her. She is doing such a great job and I just want to say ‘Please get better’.”

Gumede said in her video diary, which was broadcast this evening: “You have to treat every dance as if it’s your last and enjoy it as if it’s your last.”

Presenter Claudia Winkleman said: “She is unable to dance tonight. If she is passed as being medically fit next week, she will be able to dance in Blackpool.

“We send all our love and we hope to see you next week.”

Adele walks away from £12 MILLION deal to be the face of L’Oréal

The Set Fire to the Rain singer left the firm gobsmacked

Adele has walked away from a £12million offer to be the face of L’Oréal in a move that left the firm “gobsmacked”.

The superstar singer, 25, was months into negotiations and all set to brush aside Cheryl Cole by signing a four-year advertising contract.

It was a megabucks deal that looked destined to make her the cosmetic giant’s highest-paid star ever.

Oscar-winner Adele would have joined a celebrity “faces of” roll call with Cheryl, Penelope Cruz, Eva Longoria and Jennifer Lopez.

A source said: “L’Oréal was in
negotiations for the deal with Adele and it looked to be happening – but she just changed her mind on it.

“L’Oréal is gobsmacked that she turned down such a huge amount.” North London girl Adele has often insisted on her reluctance to sell out, claiming she dislikes artists who are constantly in everyone’s face.

In 2011 the Someone Like You singer said: “I don’t want my name anywhere near another brand. I don’t wanna be tainted or haunted. I think it’s shameful when you sell out.”

But in March it was revealed she was considering a deal after being chased by cosmetics companies including Dior and Estée Lauder.

A source at the time said: “It’s going to take a lot of persuasion to get her to agree but right now it looks as if she’s close to signing a deal.”

Landing such a high-profile role in the beauty industry would also have been one in the eye for fashion big-shots such as Karl Lagerfeld who slated her for not being stick thin.

The huge offer came amid speculation that French firm L’Oréal was looking to dump long-serving Cheryl Cole, who is on an advertising contract worth £500,000 a year.

Despite their sales rising during the popular Geordie’s stint on the X Factor, the company moved Cheryl, 30, to their skincare campaign after she took to frequently changing the colour of her hair.

And it was less than impressed when she revealed an elaborate tattoo covering her rear in August.

It sparked rumours the firm could be looking to dump her.

But Cheryl may be considered worth keeping now that Adele, rumoured to have a personal fortune of £35million, has decided the £3million-a-year deal is not tempting enough to risk undermining her image.

This year Adele was awarded an MBE and won the Best Original Song Oscar for Skyfall. She has a 12-month-old son, Angelo, with partner Simon Konecki – an Old Etonian and charity executive.

She must be rolling in seriously deep amounts of money to feel OK rejecting an offer like L’Oréal’s.

Strictly star Abbey Clancy talks to HELLO!

09 NOVEMBER 2013 Abbey Clancy is certainly a busy lady. As if juggling her modelling and presenting career with a two-year-old daughter weren’t already enough, the Liverpudlian beauty has also been competing on Strictly Come Dancing.

“I’m shattered,” Abbey told HELLO! at Fashion for the Brave on Friday night. “We’ve been doing the Charleston this week which is a million miles an hour. Full on. But I’m really enjoying it and I just hope I don’t find myself in the bottom two again.

“Being in the bottom two was horrendous,” added 27-year-old Abbey. “It was horrible. Especially being there with Rachel [Riley], who is my really good friend on the show.”

Dressed in a sheer, Union Jack-adorned dress, designed by her former Strictly co-star Julien Macdonald, Abbey told HELLO! “Everyone’s made a really good bond with each other.

“There’s no bitchiness, there’s no competition. Everyone is genuinely rooting for each other and wants them to do well.”

Having formed a successful dancing partnership with professional Aljaž Skorjanec, Abbey said that is was a “shock” to be second in the leader board and still face leaving the show.

“I’ve been second in the leader board pretty much the whole way through,” she said. “So it was scary.”

Abbey’s success on the BBC1 hit show has meant compromising spending time with her footballer husband Peter Crouch and their daughter Sophia.

“The only downside to the show for me is being away from my daughter,” said Abbey. “Im used to doing my jobs like a couple of photoshoots a month and a bit of presenting here and there, but the majority of my days are with the baby.”

“So to have to put her in nursery all day,” she added. “And for Pete to pick her up and it’s dark when I get home and she’s in bed – it’s quite hard.”

However Abbey reveals that despite being “less nervous giving birth than doing Strictly,” it’s all been worth it.

“I’m having the time of my life!” she says. “I almost feel guilty for loving it so much!”

The blonde beauty also suggested that her love for the show has been rubbing off on England star Peter, who wed Abbey in June 2011.

“Peter would love to do strictly,” she says. “He loves dancing and loves a challenge so I think maybe when he has finished football he’d like to give it a go.”

Big Band Night For X Factor Acts

Strobe lights and garish get-ups gave way to side partings and swing as the X Factor ditched last week’s disco theme in favour of the big band sound for tonight’s live episode.

Backed by a 30-piece band, it was Rough Copy who stole the show with a contemporary twist on a classic Ray Charles number, as some of the acts appeared to struggle to win over the judges.

Opening the programme, the normally bespectacled Abi Alton split the panel with her rendition of Frank Sinatra’s That’s Life, which she dedicated to her father.

Louis Walsh said: “It didn’t go too far for me. I think you can do so much better.”

But Nicole Scherzinger replied: “She was sass-tastic tonight. You let go, you had so much fun with it, girl. You delivered tonight.”

Sam Bailey, the sole representative in the Over-25s category, also borrowed from Old Blue Eyes’ back catalogue, taking on New York, New York.

Gary Barlow described her performance as “unbelievable”, while Walsh went further in his praise, saying: “For me, you are the one to beat in the competition.”

Sixteen-year-old Nicholas McDonald’s version of Ella FItzgerald’s Dream A Little Dream Of Me earned him the moniker “Baby Buble” in reference to the Canadian crooner Michael Buble.

Sharon Osborne said: “You embraced big band week fantastically. You totally put yourself into it.”

Devon teenager Luke Friend, with his trademark unkempt hair scraped back into slick ponytail, sang Moondance by Van Morrison. But he did not enjoy a vintage evening. Barlow told him: “I was disappointed in that tonight. This style just doesn’t suit you at all.”

Both he and former Pussycat Dolls singer Scherzinger said Friend needed to sing “behind the beat”, rather than ahead of it.

But the mood lifted when Hannah Barrett performed the James Brown classic It’s A Man’s Man’s World. Osborne told her: “We had more of that lovely hot chocolate voice of yours. We can never get enough of you.”

Walsh added: “You’re doing something right.”

There was a change of pace as Rough Copy – the only group left in the competition – added a contemporary twist to Ray Charles’s up-tempo Hit The Road Jack.

The trio, performing with canes and crimson blazers, swaggered around the stage as they produced an energetic rendition replete with leather trousers and tight choreography.

Both Scherzinger and Walsh tipped the trio to make the final, with the latter adding: “You are slick, snazzy – I love the style. You have to make the final.”

Tamera Foster, who was seen weeping after being in the bottom two last week, impressed tonight when she took on Julie London’s Cry Me A River – even if Osborne once again stumbled over pronouncing the 16-year-old’s name.

Barlow said her potential was “stratospheric”, while Walsh described her as a “little diva”, and said: “You’ve got this thing called ‘star quality’.”
Sam Callahan brought the curtain down on the show, with a cover of Dean Martin’s Ain’t That A Kick In The Head.

The judges gave him “A for effort”, while Walsh, dipping into the show’s bag of catchphrases, added: “You’re like a little Fred Astaire.”

The acts will return on Sunday night when they learn who will go through to the next round.
